Take-home trays: Custom trays are fabricated from impressions of your teeth. You apply professional-strength gel (typically 10 to 15 percent carbamide peroxide) into the tray and wear it for several hours daily or nightly. Over one to two weeks, your teeth brighten gradually. Take-home whitening is gentler and allows flexible timing.

Sensitivity during whitening is managed with fluoride desensitizing gel applied after whitening. Results are stable for months to a year, depending on habits.
