How It Works
Transparent, upfront, no surprises
When treatment is recommended, we provide a written estimate that shows your insurance's expected portion and your patient responsibility before you schedule. If something changes once claims are processed, we tell you. If spreading the cost of a larger case makes sense, our front office will walk you through the financing options available to you, in plain language, before you commit to anything.
If you do not have dental insurance, we offer straightforward self-pay pricing and can prioritize treatment in phases that fit your budget. Call (707) 838-1400 for details specific to your situation.
Written estimates
Before every treatment, in plain English.
Insurance coordination
We file your claims and verify benefits.
Flexible payment
Financing options for larger cases, on request.
Insurance
How dental insurance works at our office
Bonin Dental Care is an out-of-network practice, which means we are not contracted with any insurance carrier. That does not mean your plan pays nothing. Many PPO and indemnity plans still pay benefits when you see an out-of-network dentist, usually at the plan's out-of-network rate rather than a contracted in-network rate. Coverage varies widely from one plan to the next, so the most useful thing we can do is look at yours directly rather than make promises about it.
Call our front office with your carrier and member information and we will verify your eligibility and benefits and explain, in plain English, how your coverage applies at our practice before you schedule. You will know what to expect ahead of your visit.
We file your claims for you as a courtesy. That means our front office submits the paperwork, tracks the processing, and applies the payment against your account when the insurance company pays. You pay your estimated portion at the visit and we reconcile when the claim closes. If the insurance pays more than estimated, we refund the overage. If it pays less, we let you know and discuss options. We do not bill surprise balances after the fact without explanation.
We do not currently participate in Denti-Cal, Medi-Cal, or HMO (DMO/DHMO) networks. For those patients, we offer transparent self-pay pricing and work hard to keep treatment within reach through phased care plans and patient financing options.
Using Your Benefits
Getting the most from your plan
Most dental plans run on a calendar year, which means your annual maximum resets every January. If you have treatment that can be split across two calendar years, we can often plan phases so your benefits apply in both years. If you have been sitting on an unused maximum and the year is closing, we can help you prioritize what actually needs to get done versus what can wait. A lot of patients leave hundreds of dollars in benefits on the table every December simply because no one walked them through the timing.
We also coordinate with Health Savings Accounts (HSAs) and Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs) for patients whose employers offer them. Most dental care is HSA and FSA eligible, and those pre-tax dollars can meaningfully reduce the real cost of larger cases like implants, Invisalign, or full-arch restorations. If you need documentation for reimbursement, we provide it.
Financing
Spread the cost of larger treatment
For treatment that costs more than you want to handle in a single payment, financing options may be available to help you spread the cost over time. Our front office can walk you through what is available, help you understand the terms, and answer your questions before you decide. Ask us at your consultation or call ahead and we will explain your choices in plain language.
You can also combine financing with your insurance benefits and HSA or FSA dollars to make a larger case more manageable. We will help you put the pieces together so the most important work never gets postponed because of cost.
Financing disclosure
Any third-party patient financing the practice may help arrange is provided by independent lenders. Approval, interest rate, fees, repayment period, and any promotional offers are determined solely by the lender at the time of application based on individual creditworthiness, and are subject to change. Promotional offers carry specific qualifying conditions and minimum-payment requirements; failure to satisfy those terms may result in interest being charged retroactively from the original purchase date. Review the lender's full terms, fees, and APR disclosures on its application before signing. Bonin Dental Care is not a lender, does not extend credit, and receives no commission tied to your approval or use of any financing product.
Self-Pay & Phased Care
No insurance, no problem
Many of our patients pay out of pocket, either by choice or because their employer does not offer dental benefits. We treat self-pay patients the same way we treat insured patients: comprehensive exam, written estimate, transparent pricing, and a treatment plan that prioritizes what actually needs to be done first. There is no insurance paperwork to wrestle with and often the path is simpler.
For patients with larger treatment plans, we build care in phases. Phase one typically addresses anything actively causing pain, infection, or structural compromise. Phase two handles the work that prevents future problems. Phase three covers elective or cosmetic treatment. Splitting care this way keeps the total investment manageable, lets you use insurance benefits across multiple plan years, and makes sure the most important work is never postponed because of cost.
Common Questions
Financial FAQ
Will I know the cost before treatment?
Always. Every treatment plan includes a written, itemized estimate showing the fee for each procedure, the anticipated insurance contribution, and your portion. We never begin non-emergency treatment without your informed consent on both the clinical plan and the financial plan.
Do you offer financing?
Financing options may be available for larger treatment plans. Our front office can walk you through what is available, help you compare terms, and answer your questions before you decide. Ask us at your consultation or call ahead and we will explain your choices in plain language.
Do you take Denti-Cal?
Bonin Dental Care does not currently participate in Denti-Cal. For patients without other coverage we offer transparent self-pay pricing, phased treatment plans, and financing options. Call our front office and we will walk you through what works for your situation.
What if my insurance denies a claim?
If we believe the denial is incorrect, we help you appeal. That might involve submitting additional clinical documentation, X-rays, or a narrative explaining medical necessity. If the denial is appropriate and the service is your responsibility, we will review the balance with you, discuss phased follow-up care, and discuss financing options if needed.
Can I use an HSA or FSA?
Yes. Most dental treatment is eligible for payment through a Health Savings Account or Flexible Spending Account, which lets you use pre-tax dollars for your care. We can provide receipts and itemized documentation for reimbursement from your plan administrator.
